A QFT for the atoms of space and emergent cosmology dynamics (PRETALK for students at 15:30 h)
After an outline of the general problem of quantum gravity and of the idea of spacetime as emergent, rather than fundamental, I introduce the tensorial group field theory formalism for quantum gravity, discussing its motivations and basic mathematical aspects, as well as links with other quantum gravity approaches. Then, I present recent work showing how an effective cosmological dynamics can be extracted from the fundamental quantum gravity dynamics, in a hydrodynamic approximation, suggesting a new picture for the early universe as well as a possible quantum gravity origin of dark energy.
