Aspects of Large Field Inflation (PRETALK for students at 15:30)

The recent combined the results from the Planck satellite and the Keck/BICEP2 telescopes have left a visibly reduced but still sizable window for large-field inflation in the very early universe. We will discuss the basic idea and mechanism as well as the problems of large-field inflation, and connect them to the basic ideas how they are currently addressed in the context of string theory.
